Shrievalty Rose Bowl Award
On an annual basis the High Sheriff of Lancashire,
who is also a member of the LANPAC Board, is tasked with
examining all of the successfully funded Community Safety Initiative applications
and the one considered to be the best is presented with the Shrievalty Rosebowl,
in addition to a cheque for £100
This year's winner - PCSO Dave Johnson:
Burnley PCSO Dave Johnson collected the Shrievalty Rose Bowl from the
High Sheriff of Lancashire 2006-07, Mr Peter Robinson DL for a project aimed at
reducing the number of cars dumped on an isolated local road at Thursden Valley.
Along with CBM PC Ian Thompson, Dave, was awarded the accolade for the best
project of the year to receive funding from LANPAC.
Dave brought together various local people and arranged for a barrier made entirely
of natural materials to be placed along the edge of the country road to prevent fly
tipping and the dumping of abandoned cars. Commenting on Dave’s success, Chief Supt
Jerry Graham said: "I am delighted that Dave has won the High Sheriff's Rosebowl for
Pennine Division.
“He is an innovative problem solver, and the financial contribution from LANPAC was
instrumental in securing the funding to implement the response required in this case.
Dave has demonstrated all the skills required of an effective PCSO - innovation,
partnership working, and achieving results. I also want to pay tribute to those
agencies and individuals who joined together with the police to reduce the blight
of abandoned and burnt out cars in the scenic Thursden Valley. Once again,
we have demonstrated that together we can make a difference".
