Don't Give Thieves An Easy Ride!
Peter Robinson, The High Sheriff of Lancashire 2006-07 visited St Anne's Primary School
to award the pupils a High Sheriff's Commendation following the success of a vehicle
crime initiative.
Although South Ribble has a very low level of vehicle crime compared
with other districts in the country, the police are looking at reducing
the number of crimes to an even lower level and they enlisted
the pupils of St Anne's R.C. Primary School in Leyland to help.
The vast majority of vehicle crime committed in this area is preventable
by taking simple crime prevention methods - such as ensuring that when you
leave your car unattended it is locked and secure and that no property is
left on display to tempt the opportunist thief.
The pupils received a Crime prevention lesson from their local Police Community
Support Officer, Tony Wojnarowski and they then conducted surveys at home and in
local Tesco car park, in company with the police, where they passed
on their acquired knowledge.
The idea was for the children in turn to educate the adults and for
everyone to work together to reduce vehicle crime in the area even further.
The resounding message being - DON'T GIVE CRIMINALS AN EASY RIDE.
